Care for and Use of Soapstone on the Countertop

Soapstone is a natural stone that is extracted from quarrying. This stone is found on most of the continents. Soapstone makes for countertops that have different shades, which makes them unique. You can get them in white, grey, and even blue, with all the shades in between. Their natural patterns also add to the unique nature of their presentation.

Soapstone got its name from the soft nature it has when you touch it. It shall feel like the surface of dry soap when you run your palm across it. It is thus a soft yet highly durable material. The types of soapstone used in the house are usually the hard ones that can withstand pressure, heat, and scratches from so many sources. This is what makes it great for use as a kitchen countertop. It was initially relied upon when it came to making sculptures, vases, goblets, urns, as well as fireplaces. It also found use as building blocks and sinks. If you go for the soapstone countertop, you shall have an interior that has that rustic feel to it.

Soapstone from http://www.gardenstatesoapstone.com is naturally neutral to chemicals. This makes it able to withstand the effects of acids. In case you were to spill vinegar on it, or salad dressing, coffee or wine, no harm would be inflicted. You would only need to wipe it off, and the surface will be back to how it was.

While it will not need a sealant, oil s know to make the patterns on the top stand out more. When you apply the oil for the first time, the surface shall grow dark. You shall notice it fade off after a few days, by which time you need to apply another coat. After several treatments, you shall achieve the desired effect. You only need to spread the oil on it then rub with a soft cloth. You should only apply the oil sparingly, as too much of it will cause the surface to be slick. Wipe off any excess oil from the surface.  Get it now!

You can also apply mineral oil to the surface if you wish to make it completely scratch proof. With plenty of force, one can scratch the surface on account of the softness. Mineral oil shall make any scratches disappear. If they are too deep, you can get sandpaper and rub vigorously on the surface in a circular motion, while using water. Once the deep scratches are no longer visible, you can clean the surface and apply mineral oil on it.
